The start to another year in Sweden
PACKING….Between moving from one apartment in Sweden to another in June and my trip home to the States end of July-Aug to rent our home, I have spent the summer packing and purging. Spending the first 2+ weeks at home in the US alone, just me and the kids (with friends and family too) and a dumpster to completely pare down our belongings to fit into a 8′x10′x16′ container was one of the most challenging things I have done in a long time. It physically and emotionally drained me. And I can see it did so to the kids as well. It was very hard for them to pack or purge their belongings and see their childhood home empty, but they will be okay. The most important thing is that we are together as a family!
I didn’t get enough time to play while I was home but spent some really nice time visiting with a few friends for short visits! There is many people I did not get to hug and very sad about that. Another part of being so emotionally drained. Putting your home in storage and within 3 weeks was too demanding.
We left Sweden on a beautiful sunny day on July 24th, with empty suitcases and threats of heat waves at home, and returned to Sweden with a nip in the air and many leaves on the ground. As I entered the airport on arrival to Sweden, the people dressed in scarves and long coats was not a sight I was ready for, but we are still donning our shorts and sleeveless!
School starts August 20th….might as well jump right into it right? Everyone is going to a new school this year and are optimistic that there will be exciting new challenges and cultures and colleagues! Overall, we are starting our second year in Sweden in good spirits, in a lovely new home and neighborhood and creating a circle of friends here that is growing!
Stay tuned….and as always, I LOVE hearing from ALL of you!! xoxo from Sweden
